Dusting is an important factor of area rug cleaning. Regular cleaning cannot remove dust that resides in the foundation of an area rug. Rugs act as a filter they absorb dust. Every human sheds about 5 lbs of dead cells every year. Dust carried with shoes and environmental exchange will reside in the foundation of an area rug.
Cleaning, brushing, and surface vacuuming cannot reach into the foundation and knots of the rug to remove the dust particles. Every now and then the area rugs must be dusted.
